Following our work on The Children's Society's external website, we were re-commissioned to redesign the organisations intranet with a specific remit to deliver a streamlined user interface that harneses new web technologies to enhance the user experience and to maximise effeciencies in internal business processes.
The project began with an exhaustive requirements gathering process where we worked with a large group of internal stakeholders to understand the unique needs of all areas of the organisation. This led to led to the development of a content architecture for the intranet and defined the approach to personalisation and staff collaboration.
With a focus on personalisation and usability, our iterative creative design process then delivered the look and feel for the intranet, ensuring that the core design had good visual coherence with the online representation of the brand that we had defined when designing the external website.
The specific challenges of intranet design were then tackled to give a highly intuitive navigation strucutre; a rich user experience (delivered via non-obtrusive JavaScript techniques) and clear personalisation options (made visually distinct using the secondary brand colour pallette).
Linda Whittingham - Intranet Redevelopment Project ManagerThe intranet was developed, with 9web as the design team, following the successful collaboration on The Children's Society website.
Ian in particular provided strong and constructive guidance during the requirements gathering, as well as the design process. This involvement throughout the project and the commitment to deliver a quality service, contributed to a very successful (and timely) launch of the intranet.
It was a pleasure to have 9web as part of the extended project team!
